DesignFOIL Meets Rhino: During my transcontinental drive back from California, I took a detour through Northern Missouri to visit one of my customers and good friends named Chris Reynolds. He is soft spoken, works constantly, and wouldn't look out of place in a rock-n-roll band. His prolific works have honed his modeling abilities sharp as a tac. You see, Chris is the most skilled 3D modeler I've ever met. His customers give him a three-view aircraft drawing and he produces a complete 3D model ready for analysis in just one day! For example, the midget mustang shown above took approximately 4 hours to model; not because it was easy, but because he's just that good.
His company is called Builder Of Stuff and he does this superb modeling for a very reasonable Midwestern price. His tool of choice is Rhino3D and, by gosh, DesignFOIL exports airfoils and wings directly into Rhino3D while it's running! Chris likes this feature. Here's what he had to say:
"I've been using DesignFOIL for a year now and I've been using Rhino 3D for about 3 years. I can say that the two make an unbeatable combination. I've designed a number of RC (and full scale) airplanes as well as the work I do as a freelance computer aided designer, and I can say I couldn't imagine going back to designing with pencil and paper. The export wing to rhino feature saves so much time that the average RC wing takes me no more than 30 minutes to completely model up. And the analysis features of DesignFOIL just can't be beat. I mean how many model designers can accurately predict the performance of their model airplane and run wind tunnel analysis on their wings?
My thanks to John for writing such an outstanding program. Keep up the good work my
friend.
